Corruption - Corruption is an activity that deviates from the formal aim for the sake of personal benefit or that of vested interests. South Australia does not have an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) and this must be rectified. Law & Order - On-going interctive consultation with the community is required to maintain a balance between law & order and personal liberty. |
Role of Government - The government is ultimately responsible for the health and safety of the community and the Australian environment, including supportive sectors such as the economy, the judiciary, etc. and the balance betweed them. CIR (Citizens' Initiated Referendum) - In what is probably the largest single advance in direct democracy ever undertaken, the European Parliament has recently decided to implement CIR throughout the European Union, giving half a billion European citizens a direct say, through CIR, in the legislation which governs their lives. CIR Australia is aiming to introduce this facility to Australia. |
Aims:
Corruption - Establish a Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). Law & Order - A review of the jury system is required to determine the appropriate role of legal expertise. A jury is not legally qualified, so although it may give a view on a case, only the judge is qualified to determine a verdict in law. This fundamental problem with the jury system must be addressed. Role of Government - Conduct a review of the Legislative Council so that it performs effectively a values and monitoring role for government activities. - Ensure that community and environmental health take precedence over private profit. - Encourage the Federal Government to manage continental issues such as climate change and general pollution policies, information on sea level rises, biodiversity, etc.
